The Orion Academy walked away winners of the Kiwanis Club of Roseau National Secondary Schools Debate on Wednesday March 27, 2013 at the Arawak House of Culture.
The Orion Academy proposed that social networking sites cause more harm than good and was able to convince the judges likewise.
Arguing in opposition of the statement was the Portsmouth Secondary School.
Representing the Orion Academy was first former, Natalia Nassief and second former Rheina Leeloy who managed to receive 271 points while fourth formers Devon Brewster and Annisha Aaron of the Portsmouth Secondary School received 269.
The winners received trophies and $150.00 gift certificates to Jay’s Bookstore.
The other participants were also awarded with trophies. Devon Brewster copped the award for best speaker while the Orion Academy was awarded the most improved school trophy as this was the first year the school made it past the first round of the competition.
The Kiwanis Club of Roseau has been hosting this debate for 21 years.
